PRISMA

PRISMA was a major three year coordinating action project funded by the European Union under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). Its aim was to inform best practice and harmonise research in end-of-life care for cancer patients across Europe. This was achieved through comparison and exchange of approaches and experiences in measurement and research priorities.
PRISMA conducted a multidisciplinary programme to advance science and policy and to enhance co-ordination of cross-national activity within the region of Europe.11 partner organisations, across nine countries were involved with the project between 2008 and 2011.
The work was conducted by eight work packages focussed upon: (1) culture, (2) public preferences and priorities of citizens, (3) clinical research methods and priorities, (4) best practice in tool use, (5) routine outcome measurement in practice, (6) Long term care settings, (7) management and coordination, and (8) policy development.

Significant outputs include peer-reviewed publications, the Palliative care Outcome Scale website, pos-pal.org and two reports:‘Local preferences and place of death in regions within England’ and ‘Current and future needs for Hospice Care: an evidence-based report’.
