Evolution of a Palliative Care RCT: Challenges and Opportunities
There is wide evidence of the need for palliative care. However, there are few randomised controlled trials on the effectiveness of such complex interventions. Dr. Bakitas was co-investigator and director of the Project ENABLE (Educate, Nurture, Advise, Before, Life, Ends), which included a series of studies and led to the creation of a Palliative Care Consultation Service in a US Cancer Centre. A new intervention (nurse-led, psycho-educational) was evaluated in a randomised controlled trial (RCT), published last year in JAMA. In this seminar, you will find out more about the Project ENABLE, and the challenges and opportunities of conducting a Palliative Care RCT.
