Cicely Saunders International Faculty Scholars will be the future clinical leaders and investigators in end-of-life and palliative care. Each will study at the Cicely Saunders Institute in London for three to four years before moving out to take senior positions around the world.
A key arm of BuildCARE is the Cicely Saunders International (CSI) Faculty Scholar programme. This arm of the project aims to establish exceptional individuals as the future clinical leaders and investigators in end-of-life and palliative care.
The Scholars will help advance important areas within the fields of palliative and end-of-life care.
One Scholar is focussed on improving palliative care for older people, and will be involved in developing ways to test improved methods of care and to treat the problems faced by older people, such as neglected symptoms, psychological and spiritual support.
The second Scholar will concentrate on discovering ways of improving the manner by which people reaching the end of life can access palliative care services – including how palliative care is presented to patients and families, and the different ways of offering care in hospital, the community and hospices.
Dr Claudia Bausewein was BuildCARE's first CSI Faculty Scholar and she has since secured a chair role at University of Munich. Dr Bausewein is now leading a clinical and research programme from Germany in addition to remaining linked in with research and education programmes (including POS training) offered by the CSI.
The Cicely Saunders Institute is hosting POS Outcome Measurement Workshops on 18th and 19th February 2013. Registration is now open - please click here for more information and details of how to book your place.
