BuildCARE (Building Capacity, Access, Rights and Empowerment) aims to create a ‘sea change’ in the way palliative and end-of-life care is regarded, implemented and prioritised internationally.

Led by Professor Irene Higginson (Director of the Cicely Saunders Institute, London), BuildCARE is a four-year project, supported by Cicely Saunders International and The Atlantic Philanthropies.

The project is comprised of four programmes: 

International Access Rights and Empowerment (IARE)

Dissemination, Engagement and Empowerment (DEE)

Cicely Saunders International PhD Studentships

Cicely Saunders International Faculty Scholars

Dr Barbara Daveson (BuildCARE’s Research Fellow and the IARE lead) works closely with Professor Higginson to coordinate the project.
